Aim of the analysis of drug consumption, from social-medicine aspect, is identification of dynamics of recipes' realization in the pharmacies of Pharmacy Institution “Belgrade”, by funds of Republic Institute for Health Insurance “Belgrade”, as well as extent and structure of consumption of drugs used in therapy in Belgrade for period 1995-2001. Method: The City Institute for Public Health took over year reports, that is data base, and using corresponding computer procedures performed elaboration of data from recipes, and than analyzed the results. Results pointed at: a) stability of habits in drug prescription (same drugs during the period), b) negative trends in period observed (smaller total number of recipes realized and smaller number of recipes per inhabitant), c) on the example of diabetes mellitus – decrease of number of drugs edited in pharmacies of Pharmacy Institution “Belgrade” by funds of Republic Institute for Health Insurance “Belgrade”, as well as changes in drug assort...ment for this disease, expressed by defined daily dose. Conclusion is that drug consumption demands multidisciplinary following and research, that needs to be presented to professional and broad public, that is analysis should serve as initiative for inclusion of professional public in following of drug consumption.
